Postgame: Mets 8 at Cardinals 12 (swept)
I will not be writing up a postgame report because I wasn’t able to watch most of the game and if was not a good game for the Mets. I will write this though:
- Livan Hernandez gave up 5 runs in 5 innings of work.
- Sean Green gave up 5 runs in 2 innings of work.
- Anyone who thought that Livan has constituency was really wrong.
- Livan is not a very good pitcher.
- The Mets bullpen can’t be trusted other than Franky and Putz.
- The Mets did almost rally to come back in the 8th but it wasn’t enough.
Final: Mets 4 at Cardinals 6
8:32
I can’t believe Murphy was picked off but at least we got 1. Good for Perez to get out of the inning.
8:45
Castillo triples, Ollie walks, Jose singles, 2-0
8:54
How in the world did Wright catch that. It was a broken bat, slow hit, line drive that Wright didn’t have much time to get to but he dove and got it.
9:13
After Ollie gets hit and then Reyes gets hurt. Come on Murphy.
9:15
Murphy gets a hit and Ollie scores. 3-0 Mets.
9:17
Wright reaches on throwing error but scored a hit to get to first. Error to get to second.. Reyes scores. Murphy tries to score from first but is out at the plate. Inning over but it was a good one. Got 2 runs and it all started with a 2 out hit by the pitcher.

9:24
With 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, Perez get the batter to bloop it to Wright and has a chance to get out of the inning.
9:31
After walking Khelil Green, Perez struck out Thurston on a 3-2 pitch.
9:37
Mets ground into double play end of inning. Half way through.
9:43
Pujols gets a 2 RBI double. Come on O.P. Casey Fossum, the new lefty, is warming up.
9:54
Ollie walks in a run and Jerry makes the move to Fossum so Ollie can’t get a win.
9:58
Fossum walks the first man he faces in a Mets uniform. It was on 4 pitches and now they are hitting for the pitcher after he led off the inning with a hit.
9:59
Fossum get the pinch hitter to ground out. 4 all.

- John Maine looked pretty good. He got off to a bad start in the first and then rebounded and went 5 innings. Putz and Parnell then followed with 1-2-3 innings. Here is the Mets Pitching box score:
The Mets had a 7 run 7th inning. During it the Mets some surprise RBI people. Mike Nickeas hit a 2 out RBI single in his 2nd at bat of the spring to take a 4-3 lead. (He is 2 for 2 this spring.) Following Nickeas, Jonathan Malo drives in a run on a error. Then Jose Reyes has a 2 RBI single to make the score 7-3. Then Omir Santos hit a pinch hit 2 run homer to make the score 9-3.NY Mets IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Maine 5.0 6 3 1 3 5 0 8.00 Putz 1.0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0.00 Parnell 1.0 0 0 0 1 0 0 2.38 Figueroa, N 1.0 2 1 1 0 0 0 10.80 Muniz 1.0 1 1 1 1 2 1 4.91
Tomorrow the National will come to town with Johan on the mound on SNY.
…update 10:50 PM
I forgot to mention that Maine threw 95 pitches in his 5 innings of work.
Thats not great but he would’ve pitched a 6th in the regular season. He also had a new delivery that he had to get used to.
